Uniting Austin,
Delivering Opportunities
JV Overview
Austin Transit Connectors (ATC), comprised of Flatiron Dragados and Aecon.
Flatiron Dragados is proud to excel in complex infrastructure projects including rail, road, bridge and airport projects across the US and Canada. For over 77 years, Flatiron Dragados has completed some of the most high-profile and complex heavy civil and infrastructure projects in North America. Specializing in collaborative delivery methods (CMAR, CMGC, Progressive Design-Build, Design-Build) for the past 16 years, they have one of the most extensive portfolios of collaborative delivery projects in existence today. Flatiron Dragados has reached GMP on 100 percent of their collaborative delivery projects. This success is rooted in established preconstruction processes that prioritize partnership, risk reduction, value engineering, and a relentless focus on achieving client goals.
Aecon is a North American company with global experience planning, engineering, procuring, building and commissioning large-scale infrastructure projects. As cities continue to urbanize and populations grow, Aecon is primed to deliver the technologically advanced transportation systems needed to meet the demand of future generations. With a reputation for excellence, Aecon’s client responsiveness and consistent on-time project delivery is matched with their commitment to sustainable solutions. Aecon works closely with clients to meet ambitious standards of environmental performance. Across their projects and operations, they use advanced equipment and carefully developed processes to minimize waste, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other environmental impacts. Aecon continues to progress toward achieving their greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets to reduce their direct CO2 emissions by 30 percent by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050.
Flatiron Dragados and Aecon make up the JV, Austin Transit Connectors (ATC). For nearly 20 years, we have partnered to deliver some of the most critical and community-shaping transit infrastructure projects throughout North America.

About the Project
The Austin Transit Partnership (ATP) plans to implement a 9.8-mile light rail line connecting Downtown Austin to North, South, and East Austin. Starting at Guadalupe and 38th Streets, the line will traverse Downtown and cross Lady Bird Lake on a dedicated bridge. It will branch into two routes: one to South Congress Avenue and Oltorf Street, and another along East Riverside Drive, heading near Austin Bergstrom International Airport. The project involves constructing 15 stations and an operations facility, along with purchasing 25-30 vehicles. Service will run every five minutes during the day on the main line, with slightly less frequent service on the branches. ATP aims to enhance transportation capacity, support Austin’s growth, and improve transit access to jobs and affordable housing.
Safety First | Safety Always
It's easy to tout the merits of one's safety program, but it's another thing entirely to truly develop a safety culture. Flatiron has achieved this and has been recognized accordingly. For continually having a “Zero Incidence Rate” Flatiron has been awarded the TxDOT Bluebonnet Safety Award for seven years in a row and the AGC Certificate of Commendation for an Excellent Safety Record five years in a row. Additionally, as testament to our rigorous standards and the implementation of our standards, our Gordie Howe International Bridge Safety team (Aecon & Flatiron Dragados) was recently named Silver winners for the OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) Team of the Year.
